These clients are a very busy working couple with three children ages thirteen, nine and five. With two of their three children also still using their bathroom for bathing, they knew they needed to find a way to make the existing space larger and also create ample storage. After waiting almost eight years to renovate their master bathroom, they had clear ideas of what they needed, and wanted, in their new bathroom. They wanted it to be designed in a modern organic style, but also they stressed that it needed to be equally functional as it was beautiful.
The most important requirement was maximum storage. Combining the bathroom with the the small linen closet in the hall created a wider more open entrance into the new bathroom allowed for more space for storage and a new makeup area area. The serene color consist of multiple shades of grey, white, and icy to mid blues. Contrast and drama were created with the dual combination of metal accents in the hardware and lighting fixtures, mixing matte black, chrome and acrylic. The materials used for the floor and walls are porcelain and a modern geometric shaped glass tile mosaic in a pale blue/grey metallic on the accent walls. The new bathroom has all the high end style elements that are on the cutting edge of design today. There is an additional storage piece next to the toilet to house a hamper, a drawer for toilet paper. There are two open shelves also above that area to display more bath towels and have easy access. The top shelf is mainly for decorative items and art. One of the main focal points of the bathroom is a large modern chandelier in black with chrome.
We created visual vignettes in all areas throughout the bathroom, even the toilet area vignette was functional and beautiful as it displayed open shelving for towels, as well as decorative accessories and artwork.
Our design goal was reached by creating enough storage to conceal all objects and allowed for a cleaner aesthetic without normal bathroom clutter.
