Micro Housing Project
I became interested in presidents of shipping container architecture to drive the program of a 250 square foot apartment. My design is based on several observations I had made in my research including minimal program space and the concept of modular design. From there I began measuring myself as well as several of my friends to determine the smallest, but still comfortable, amount of space necessary for each section of the space while also looking into dimensions of standard appliances.
The space itself contains three separate modules that could exist anywhere within and outside of the space. By doing this, it allows for the needs of the user at any given time and can be completely closed up and moved out of the way if needed, allowing for maximum open space. The designs were created by following three simple rules including: each unit must fit in an elevator and through a three foot by seven foot doorway, serve multiple functions, and must be able to exist anywhere.
